How to Reset a Linksys Router to Its Default Settings?

  • Connect any wireless device to the home network through either a wired or wireless connection.
  • Here, we will use a wired connection to connect the computer system to the network. A wired connection is more reliable and secure than a wireless connection.
  • Use an Ethernet cable and connect it from your computer to the Linksys smart Wi-Fi router.
  • Next, launch an internet browser from your computer and type the web address www.myrouter.local in the address bar. Or you can use the Linksys router default IP address 192.168.1.1 in the address bar of the browser and press ‘Enter’.
  • Enter the default login details of the Linksys smart Wifi router and click login.
  • If you have a Linksys Smart Wi-Fi router then click on the link given after “To log in with your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi account”.
  • Enter the email address and password and click on the login button.
  • Linksys BASIC home page displays, click on the Linksys router settings.
  • Click on the ‘Troubleshooting’ tab and select ‘Diagnostics’. Click on ‘Factory Reset’
  • The process starts once you click the ‘Reset’ button.

How to Secure Linksys Wireless Router with a Password in 6 Easy Steps?

  • Step 1: Start with the connectivity of your computer. Take an Ethernet cable and connect it from the Linksys router to the LAN port of the computer. Turn on the computer and then switch on the Linksys device.
  • Step 2: Now, open the web browser on your PC that you will use for the whole process. Now write http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar of the browser. Press the Enter button on your keyboard and wait for the browser to the response.
  • Step 3: When a login screen appears, enter the username and password of the Linksys router. Look for the default login credentials on the printed label on the router’s back panel. Put “admin” the Linksys default password in the password field and leave the username blank. Press enter. Once you press the enter button, you will be redirected to the Linksys web management page.
  • Step 4: To password protect the network, click on the Wireless button which is on the top left of the screen. After that, you will get a manual button for WiFi protected setup on the screen. Don’t follow this step if you are using the older version of the Linksys router. Now, you need to change the Network Name (SSID) as per your choice. Save the SSID name and connect again on the new SSID name.
  • Step 5: Click on the “wireless security” tab again to configure the security mode for the router. Select the best security mode to keep the Linksys device secure. It is recommended to select the mixed-mode security WPA/WPA2. For the latest version of the Linksys router, select the WPA security mode in place of WEP mode. Select WPA personal and then click TKIP encryption mode. 
  • Step 6: Now you need to set up the passphrase for the home network. Set a strong passphrase as per your choice with 8-63 alphanumeric characters. Once you have done, click the “Save Settings” button and save all your settings.
