How to Reset a Linksys Router to Its Default Settings?

In this article, you are going to explore some of the easiest ways to reset a Linksys router.

You may need to reset your Linksys device if you forgot the router’s password, if a firmware update is failed, or if you want to do a fresh installation. When you perform the reset process, the router sets back to the default factory settings. It will remove all information customized by a user.

The Linksys router can be reset in two ways -
  1. Hard reset
  2. Soft Reset
Reset Using the Reset Button (Hard Reset)

Look for the reset button or a small hole on the Linksys wireless router. Use a paper clip to press this button.

Press and hold the button for 10 seconds and then release. The hard reset process is completed. After reset, access the Linksys Wi-Fi Setup page to configure the settings again.

Reset Using the Web-Based Setup Page (Soft Reset)

For this method, you have to log into the Linksys web-based interface. You can do this by accessing the Linksys smart Wi-Fi router login page using www.myrouter.local.  Here are step-by-step instructions to complete the reset process.
  • Connect any wireless device to the home network through either a wired or wireless connection.
  • Here, we will use a wired connection to connect the computer system to the network. A wired connection is more reliable and secure than a wireless connection.
  • Use an Ethernet cable and connect it from your computer to the Linksys smart Wi-Fi router.
  • Next, launch an internet browser from your computer and type the web address www.myrouter.local in the address bar. Or you can use the Linksys router default IP address 192.168.1.1 in the address bar of the browser and press ‘Enter’.
  • Enter the default login details of the Linksys smart Wifi router and click login.
  • If you have a Linksys Smart Wi-Fi router then click on the link given after “To log in with your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi account”.
  • Enter the email address and password and click on the login button.
  • Linksys BASIC home page displays, click on the Linksys router settings.
  • Click on the ‘Troubleshooting’ tab and select ‘Diagnostics’. Click on ‘Factory Reset’
  • The process starts once you click the ‘Reset’ button.
